[954] Tylor (spr. teilö̆r), Edward Burnett, Anthropolog, geb. 2. Okt. 1832 zu Camberwell, wurde 1871 Fellow der Royal Society, 1883 Direktor des Universitätsmuseums in Oxford, wo er auch Vorlesungen hält. Auch ist er Präsident der Englischen Anthropologischen Gesellschaft. Er schrieb: „Anahuac or Mexico and the Mexicans“ (Lond. 1861); „Early history of mankind and of civilisation“ (3. Aufl., das. 1878; deutsch, Leipz. 1866); „Primitive culture: researches into the development of mythology, philosophy, religion, art and custom“ (2. Aufl., Lond. 1873, 2 Bde.; deutsch, Leipz. 1873); „Anthropology“ (Lond. 1881; deutsch, Braunschw. 1883).
